Shooto Germany at the European Championships
Due to the many amateur tournaments, the shooters from Germany were extremely well prepared for this year's European Championships in Holland.
Gold medals
Konstantin Kusminych stood in the class -61.2 kg directly against the Dutchman Zelim Yunusov in the final and made there literally "short process". After only 17 seconds in the first round, the Dutchman must knock off Konstantin in a tight guillotine and the first gold goes to Germany.
Joachim Schönberger had a walk-through in the semifinals of the 93.0 kg class and also met a Dutchman in the final. Joachim finally prevailed in a gripping fight after 2 rounds on points and brought the second gold medal to Germany.
Bronze medals
Gela Deisadze lost in the semifinals to Dutchman Piotr Hadjuk on points and had to settle for the bronze medal. Matthew Mays won in the quarterfinals against Dutchman Karel Smit in round 1 by submission with a heel hook and then lost in the semifinals to the future champion Mehdi Ben Meriem from the Netherlands.
Joachim Schönberger and Konstantin Kusminych will be promoted to professional status by the German Shooto Commission and will be allowed to fight semi-pro and pro fights at Shooto Germany in the future. Both should be seen shortly at SHOOTO KINGS, if interesting match-ups arise.
The entire national team has been MatGuerilla sponsored. In addition to the travel expenses and entry fees, which were covered by MatGuerilla, they also equipped the fighters with the latest fightshorts and the Shooto Germany Rashguard from MatGuerilla.
